A few years back, I had the amazing opportunity to travel to Scotland and hike the West Highland Way (WHW). It’s a 96 mile hike that takes you from Milngavie in the south to Fort Williams in the north. It’s a hike that takes several days to complete and it covers a wide variety of terrain.
Along the way you will hike through old forest paths, amongst the mountains of Glen Coe, along the entire length of Scotlands biggest lake, Loch Lomond, and finally to the base of Ben Nevis, the UKs tallest peak. The trail is a blast to do and you get to stay in some really cool, old bed and breakfasts, visit local pubs to chat with the locals and share your daily hiking stories with other fellow adventures. There is also a whiskey distillery, Glengoyne, along the way shortly after you start the hike.
I created this piece of art based on one of my favorite parts of the West Highland Way, Glen Coe. More specifically, the mountain of Buachaille Etive Mòr. Travelers typically reach this section of the trail on days 4 or 5 and it is an amazing stretch of the trail. The expansive views are truly spectacular and it feels like you can see forever. If you are so inclined, you can climb or scramble up to the top of its peak which might make for an adventurous addition to your hike. As a fun fact of this mountain, you can see it in the James Bond movie Skyfall during a car chase through the highlands.
Finishing the West Highland Way is an amazing accomplishment. I wanted to create this print as a way for you to showcase your own accomplishment of completing the trail and also to bring the views of the beautiful Glen Coe into your home or office. I also wanted to create it for those who plan to hike the WHW in the future, but haven’t quite gotten there yet. Having motivational images around is an amazing way to keep things focused in your mind so you can focus on accomplishing them. It’s also for the friends and family that you know who have hiked the West Highland Way or are lovers of Scotland.
I hope that you enjoy this print and you can relive your memories of the WHW or share it with your friends and family.
